Professor Simon Tavaré is Professor of Statistics and of Biological Sciences and the Herbert and Florence Irving Director of the Irving Institute for Cancer Dynamics at Columbia University.  Prior to joining Columbia, he was Director of the Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute, Professor of Cancer Research at the Department of Oncology and Professor in the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics at the University of Cambridge. Simon is a fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences and the Royal Society, and a member of EMBO. He was president of the London Mathematical Society from 2015 to 2017, and was elected a Fellow of the American Mathematical Society and a Foreign Associate of the National Academy of Sciences in 2018.
